Why is the migration project being undertaken?
Migration is increasing around the world.
In the UK, there are labour shortages in key industries including health, hospitality, agriculture and construction, yet the press is overwhelmingly negative about migration, furthering several misconceptions.
There is a need for clarification and distinctions to be made and, as demonstrated in the last election, a more rational and mature debate is necessary.
Who are the Migration Commissioners?
The commissioners are acknowledged and respected experts in their fields who have specialised knowledge in a variety of areas.
They are a balanced group assembled for their expertise, not their politics.
The project seeks to address the following questions:
- What is the difference between immigration and migration? Why is it important to specify?
- What is the effect of migration/immigration on UK jobs?
- Do immigrants take local jobs?
- Why is migration important?
- Who does migration benefit?
- Who are migrants? Where do they work and live?
- How does one separate fact from fiction in the media coverage about migration?
- Is migration a threat to the UK and to the British way of life?
- How should migration best be managed?
